Palm Harbor resident Angelica Lee Hall, 18, was riding on the back of a motorcycle that was involved in a fatal crash on Thursday morning around 10 a.m. This was the second time she was in a serious Pinellas County motorcycle accident during a time span of less than two months. In both occurrences, Shay Daniel Lydon, 20, also a resident of Palm Harbor, was the driver.
About six weeks ago, the teen and the same driver were in a motorcycle accident that occurred on Curlew Road in Dunedin. Lydon was driving a Geo Prism and cut into the direct path of a Dodge Ram truck that was headed eastbound on Curlew Road around 8 a.m. on March 30. According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was so severe that Hall had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Lydon was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Last Thursday Lydon’s Yamaha motorcycle was riding northbound on Belcher Road and ran through a red light at the busy intersection of Belleair Road. The motorcycle drove right into the path of a Toyota which was traveling westbound on Belleair Road.
Hall and Lydon were both ejected from the bike. Neither of them was wearing a helmet, according to police. Lydon was airlifted to St. Pete’s Bayfront Medical Center, where he later died from the injuries he sustained. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Toyota, Charles Manning, 62, of Russellville, Ark. was also transported to Bayfront Medical Center and remains in serious condition. The passenger in the Toyota, Patricia Muth, 70, of Clearwater, also suffered from numerous injuries and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where she is in serious condition. Fortunately, Manning and Muth were both wearing seat belts.
Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
